Caring for fresh Tawas Blueberries
Handle with care
As with most fruits, blueberries bruise easily, so handle them gently.
Remove twigs and leaves
Sort the blueberries, removing any stems, little twigs
Let them dry
As soon as possible, gently pour berries onto trays or on paper towels on counter tops one layer of berries deep.
Let the berries sit until they are dry
Eat fresh
As soon as possible after berries are dry, put in covered bowls and refrigerate
Or freeze for later
As soon as possible after berries are dry, put on trays one layer deep and freeze. It only takes a couple of hours. Dump the frozen blueberries into freezer bags, label, and return to freezer.
